Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce Mission Statement

The mission of the Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce is to provide leadership and support for the economic development and stability of Calhoun County, Texas, through positive action in promoting tourism, business/industry development and community pride.  The Chamber will also promote the image of its own organization by serving as goodwill ambassadors to create a productive working environment between all county entities.

Purpose of the Ambassadors

The Ambassador’s Committee is a prestigious group of chamber members dedicated to supporting the Mission of the Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce through goodwill and hospitality.

Definition

Ambassadors are the people who facilitate the ribbon cuttings, assist at Chamber functions and promote membership retention by encouraging active participation in Chamber projects and committee work by all Chamber members.  Ambassadors also represent the Chamber as a welcome committee to new businesses.

Organization

The Ambassadors consist of approximately 20 members, but are not limited to that number, plus a Chamber board member and the Publisher of the Port Lavaca Wave.  Membership consists of up to two Ambassadors per business or organization and up to four Ambassadors for each area industry (over 100 employees).  Ambassador Officers are elected at the December meeting and assume office in January.

Monthly luncheon meetings are held on the 1st Thursday of each month.  Members provide their own lunch, unless otherwise advertised.  The Chamber Board Member and Executive Director attend meetings.

Membership

Membership in the Ambassadors is by invitation only. The Ambassadors Committee recommends prospective members to the Chamber board for approval.  With Chamber Board approval, invitations are extended.  Upon agreeing to serve as an Ambassador, a letter and personal call will come from the Chamber President.

Ambassadors must be a Chamber member in good standing or employed by a business member in good standing in the Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce.

Functions

Ambassadors:

  • Assist at all Chamber Banquets;
  • Assist at all receptions;
  • Assist Chamber committees as needed;
  • Assist in meeting dignitaries visiting the area when requested;
  • Assist new business with the grand opening/ribbon cutting of their business;
  • Assist in annual membership drive; and
  • Attend monthly meetings

The suggested time for ribbon cuttings is 1:30 PM.  Ribbon cuttings are scheduled so as not to conflict with other Ambassador or Chamber functions or meetings.  The Chamber provides, ribbon, scissors and framed color photograph for each business’ grand opening/ribbon cutting.

Membership Expectations

Ambassadors not attending at least 50% of Chamber functions and/or miss three (3) consecutive Ambassador meetings over a period of six (6) months will be replaced in the interest of the future of the Chamber.  Attendance will be reviewed in May and November. Each Ambassador is responsible for signing in at all functions.  A roll call sheet will be available at all Chamber functions.

If for a function, only a few Ambassadors may attend, selection will be made from the Ambassadors with the highest attendance at Chamber functions.

Ambassadors are notified of upcoming events through email.  An email and/or phone calls will be sent for any unpublished event/activity.

Each Ambassador is asked to complete an Ambassador Information Sheet which provides business and personal information about each member of the committee.  This information is shared among committee members to help build relationships and allow members the opportunity to get to know one another more.

Dress Code

Each Ambassador is to wear the designated fishing style shirt to all ribbon cuttings and chamber event.  The shirt can be worn with jeans or slacks.

Ambassador of the Year

Each year the outstanding Ambassador will be recognized at the Annual Chamber Awards Banquet.  A nomination committee will be formed from Chamber Board of Directors and that committee as a whole will select the Ambassador of the Year.

Benefits of the Involvement in the Ambassadors

  • Ambassadors have the opportunity to make many new contacts with Port Lavaca and Calhoun County firms and business people;
  • Ambassadors can broaden their development in civic work as well as personal development;
  • Ambassadors enjoy the feeling of success and accomplishment and receive recognition for a job well done; and
  • Ambassadors expand the civic reputation of their firm.

MOST IMPORTANTLY – Ambassadors provide an invaluable service to the Chamber of Commerce by insuring a membership base needed to carry out and broaden the Chamber’s program which benefits the entire Calhoun County area.

Any changes to these guidelines must be approved by the Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
