100 years of International Women’s Day. Let’s celebrate!

Port Lavaca, Texas – 2011 marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.

Our aviation community organizes a celebration of all Women of Aviation Worldwide annually in March during international women week. Women of Aviation Worldwide Week is a week of awareness and action.

Calhoun Air Center is proud to honor the Women of Aviation of the past and the present as well as to reach out and introduce girls and women to the opportunities that aviation has to offer. Airport manager, Dianna Stanger has announced she will take girls that are interested in aviation free of charge on a discovery flight in her helicopter if they are a part of a non-profit organization in Calhoun or Victoria County.

The global IWD theme in 2011 is: Equal access to education, training and science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women.
